The INFRA-EAR: a low-cost mobile multidisciplinary measurement platform for monitoring geophysical parameters

Abstract. Geophysical studies and real-time monitoring of natural hazards, such as volcanic eruptions or severe weather events, benefit from the joint analysis multiple geophysical parameters. However, typical measurement platforms still provide logging solutions for a single parameter, due to different community standards higher cost per added sensor. In this work, Infrasound Environmental Atmospheric data Recorder (INFRA-EAR) is presented, which has been designed low-cost mobile multidisciplinary platform monitoring. particular, monitors infrasound but concurrently measures barometric pressure, accelerations, wind flow uses Global Positioning System (GPS) position platform. Due its digital design, sensor can be readily integrated with existing infrastructures embedded in analysis. The small dimensions low unit allow unconventional, experimental designs, example, high-density spatial sampling deployment on moving platforms. Moreover, deployments complement high-fidelity networks. using micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) sensors printed circuit board (PCB). MEMS PCB are GPS, three-component accelerometer, pressure sensor, an anemometer, differential A programmable microcontroller controls frequency storage. waterproof casing used protect against weather. created stereolithography (SLA) Formlabs 3D printer durable resin. Thanks power consumption (9 Wh over 25 d), powered by battery solar panel. Besides description we discuss calibration performance individual sensors.
